First Snowflakes Poem for my wife

Looking out my office window at the first snowflakes of the winter season, I felt inspired to write a little poem for my wife. To be honest, I first searched for a poem that communicated how seeing those first snowflakes of the year reminded me of my wife but I found nothing that really captured how I felt so I decided to just write my own. I created a little image of snowflakes with this text over it and emailed it to my wife. Here is the poem.

I saw the first snowflakes of the year today
and they reminded me of you

They reminded me of Christmas time
when our love was still quite new

My hands would get so very cold
so I'd ask you for some help

You'd take my hands and warm them up
Better then I could ever do myself

You always look so elegant
this magical time of the year

Just like the falling snowflakes
You’re beautiful, gentle and pure

A poem for an amazing mom

My wife has been feeling a little defeated of late as our 3 year old has been more then challenging. I know she's been second guessing her mothering skills which of course is crazy because she is a great mom. Today I decided to write and send her a little poem to reassure her about what a great mom she is.

An amazing mom

An amazing mom is not one that’s perfect
For I promise you none such exists.

It’s not about money or beauty or status
These mean absolutely nothing to kids.

There’s no secret formula that mothers should follow
But a million roads you can take.

When you question yourself, that’s really proof that you care
You want the best for you children’s fate.

Amazing mothers always think, of their children’s needs first
And sacrifice for them each day.

It’s not all the big things but each little moment
That mean the world to your child as they play

So when I look around for a wonderful mom
I clearly can see her in you.

It’s the love in your heart and the way that you care
That makes you an amazing in all that you do.

All My Children making a come back

My wife is a fan of the ABC soap opera All My Children and was sad to see it cancelled recently. Knowing a little photoshop, I decided I would have a little fun with an image from the show. I put our faces on the bodies of two of the stars shows so that we are part of the action with Susan Lucci and sent it to her email today. I captioned it: amc making a comeback :-) Of course she had to send it to her mom who said she wants to print it and show it to her grandmother. All three of them are huge fans so I think this was a hit.

Extension cord heart

The idea came to me when I was standing in our garage. My wife had left before me to take the kids to daycare and I had to leave for work soon. I thought it would be fun if she opened the garage door and saw something that let her know I was thinking about her. But what could that be? Then it came to me. I could make a big heart out of...an extension cord. Ok so that's not the most romantic thing in the world but I found a white extension cord that wasn't being used and started molding it into a heart. I had to put a couple nails in to hold it's form but it actually turned out pretty good. Here is what my wife saw when she pulled back into the garage later that day. Definitely a unique expression of my love.

The Translation Machine

Sometimes I find that the little surprises I do for my wife don't need to be all that romantic. If I can make her laugh I think she appreciates that just as much. Yesterday I she forwarded me an email from her aunt and asked if I could tell her if I thought she was interpreting it correctly. I gave her a quick answer and then told her that I put the whole email through a special translation program and the following is how it came out.

HI Ann [Hello my Favorite Niece],

I should be able to make Katherine's party [I’m excited to come and wouldn’t miss the first birthday of my Goddaughters birthday],, I'm not sure about Bob I'll have to get back to you on him[Bob really doesn’t like hanging out with the extended family so I’ll probably leave him at the golf course],. What do you want me to bring[I’d be more than happy to help],? I feel it's been a while since I've seen you guys[we don’t get together enough],. I heard John is in town this week, hopefully we will be able to get together sometime[lets use John as an excuse to get together],. I'm o/c tonight and off tomorrow, so if I don't get called out, I was thinking of a BBQ tomorrow, we just have to wait and see[I might have to work overnight but if I don’t let’s plan to hang out],.

Lucky is doing great, she is such a well mannered dog[always says please and thankyou?],. We went to Petco this AM, she got a new halloween toy [her old one was getting boring], and more treats, and then we sat outside at Panera for Martha's treat and coffee [it’s fun playing mom J],. Saturday afternoon I took care of the neighbors Yorkie[I tried to socialize Lucky],, we spent most of the day outside in the backyard. Lucky definitely didn't like her, she nipped a few times at her[Your dog is stuck up],. They did play a little--chasing each other[the other dog tried to play and Lucky chased her away],. When we came inside Lucky stayed on the bed where the Yorkie couldn't jump up. I think Lucky is too old to want to play with other dogs [can’t teach an old dog new tricks],.

I have so much work to do [probably not as busy as you but I like to pretend J],, but it's just too nice to stay inside, I think I'll give in and go for a long walk [with the dog of course],, and then may be I'll feel better about doing my work inside [I don’t want to work today…you know the feeling],.

Enjoy the day!!! [Don’t work too hard],

Love Aunt Martha

My wife responded to this with the following:

"You’re hilarious today! I’m in a meeting, but reading this literally had me laughing out loud! Love that translations (and you, of course!)!"

I think she like it :-)

I love my wife

This blog is going to be all about ways that I show my wife just how much I love her. I love finding new ways to surprise her and have found that these small expressions of love can really make her day. Sometime...well all the time really... life gets busy with kids, work and countless other things and it becomes easy to loose track of making time for each other in a marriage. I know it's happened to me more then once where all of a sudden I realize that I've just been getting through the days and not really showing my wife outwardly how I feel inside. It got to the point where my wife and I had a really good (but not fun) talk about our relationship. She wasn't feeling my love for her and while I still loved her as much as ever, I knew that I hadn't been showing her that or allowing our relationship to grow. To remedy this I decided to take a chapter from our courting days and made it a goal to to find unique ways to show her how much I love her on a regular basis (daily if possible). This can be as little as a short love note in her car or as simple as making heart out of a pipe-cleaner and leaving it around the bathroom soap for her to find. I've found that I love surprising her as much as she loves being surprised. So if you just stumbled onto this blog, I hope you will enjoy it and maybe even be inspired by it. Love needs to be nurtured and when you put some time into showing it to each other, beautiful things can happen.
